About Us
The Rose Garden/Davenport Town Community Study Hall program offers hope in a neighborhood once overshadowed by adversity. This initiative boasts a remarkable 98% high school graduation rate among its participants and has fostered an environment where 85% of its students pursue higher education. These achievements underscore the power and potential of dedicated academic support within challenging environments.

Our Mission
Our mission is to positively change children’s lives by helping neighborhood residents organize and establish an infrastructure providing long-term, accessible academic support for the youth of its neighborhood through a robust after-school program called Community Study Hall (CSH).
Community Study Hall is an academically focused, neighborhood after school program convening weekdays from 3:30P.M. to 6:00P.M. for youth ranging in age from Pre-K to Middle School. Community Study Hall programs focus on providing Homework Assistance, Reading Remediation, Mathematics Remediation, Tutoring, Technology Instruction, Science Sessions, STEM Workshops, Character Education, and Life Skill Workshops. Educational field trips, including college tours, are another component of Community Study Hall.
When fully implemented, CSH assists in the development of youths’ skills, abilities, health, and overall character through developing their abilities, limiting undesirable exposure, strengthening their preparedness for life, molding their character, and motivating healthy behavior.

Our Vision
Our vision is for neighborhoods across the United States to have flourishing Community Study Halls. NEIGHBORHOODS FOCUSED ON AFRICAN-AMERICAN YOUTH INC. is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization focused on positively changing the outcomes of youth living in poverty.
Cheryl Bursh, the founder, also co-founded the original Hand’s Feet & Mouth, Inc. Community Study Hall program, which had an 85% college attendance rate (for those who participated from age 3 to 18). This program model, specifically the HFM Community Study Hall, has a proven track record spanning over 36 years.
